NFL Trade Rumors: Las Vegas Raiders Releasing Cornerback Jack Jones

A promising young defensive back is about to hit the market in the late stages of free agency. According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the Las Vegas Raiders are releasing cornerback Jack Jones after failing to find a trade partner.

Raiders beat writer Vincent Bonsignore reported the Raiders were attempting to move Jones on Sunday, but evidently, nothing materialized.

Jones has been relatively active and productive since entering the league as a fourth-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, notching seven interceptions and breaking up 27 passes over 42 appearances. For his career, he has also allowed a respectable 84.9 passer rating on throws in his direction.

Still, Jones has clearly struggled to endear himself to NFL decision-makers. The New England Patriots waived him in 2023, and the Raiders are doing the same after 19 starts. College was similarly contentious; Jones bounced from USC to Moorpark College to Arizona State from 2016 to 2021.

Jones is 27 years old and has shown he can contribute to a team. Assuming he hasn't irrevocably alienated himself from coaches and front-office powerbrokers, he should be able to find a new home sooner than later. Staying in the AFC West so he can take advantage of familiar matchups and exact revenge on the Raiders twice a year would make a lot of sense.
