NFL Trade Rumors: Dallas Cowboys Edge Rusher Micah Parsons Attends Offseason Workouts

The Dallas Cowboys are still on good terms with one of their best players. According to ESPN's Todd Archer, four-time Pro Bowl edge rusher Micah Parsons is in attendance for the opening of the Cowboys voluntary offseason program.

Parsons is entering the fifth-year option portion of his rookie contract and is overdue for a lucrative extension. He has made the Pro Bowl in each of his four seasons since entering the league as a first-round pick in 2021 and is arguably one of the most valuable defensive players in the league.

The fact that Parsons is showing up to this early portion of team activities shows exceptional good faith from the superstar. Many players of his calibre keep to themselves at this point in the offseason, even when they aren't angling for a new contract. Clearly, Parsons is showing meaningful commitment and loyalty to the Cowboys organization.

Still, it's notable that Parsons hasn't already been taken care of. He's been extension-eligible since last offseason, and the price for elite pass rushers has only increased. Cleveland Browns edge rusher Myles Garrett recently signed a four-year, $160 million deal, and Pittsburgh Steelers superstar T.J. Watt is rumored to be angling for a new deal, too.

The Cowboys have made a habit of putting off extensions lately, arguably to their detriment. Quarterback Dak Prescott and wide receiver CeeDee Lamb both signed record-breaking contracts last September after protracted negotiations. In both cases, the Cowboys could likely have saved themselves some cap space and their players some discontent by inking deals sooner.

In any case, Parsons' goodwill gesture should indicate that he doesn't intend to aggressively force a trade. That doesn't necessarily preclude the Cowboys from moving Parsons, but that would probably take an offer they can't refuse from another team. That package would begin with multiple first-round picks. Overall, it's likelier the Cowboys and Parsons will come to terms on a deal of their own in the coming months.
