NFL Trade Rumors: Arizona Cardinals Owner "Not a Huge Fan" of Kyler Murray

The annual quarterback carousel could have a surprise addition in the near future. While appearing on The Adam Schefter Podcast, ESPN's Adam Schefter revealed that Arizona Cardinals owner Michael Bidwll is "not a huge fan" of starting quarterback Kyler Murray.

Schefter shared the news while discussing surprise candidates to take quarterback Shedeur Sanders in next week's draft. Schefter suggested several teams could be interested in the Colorado prospect should he fall in the draft.

Even if the Cardinals don't end up doing anything drastic in the draft, it's still notable that they are dissatisfied with their young quarterback. Murray is only 27 years old and has four years remaining on a five-year, $230.5 million extension signed in 2022.

Still, Murray's recent play has left a lot to be desired. Since signing the extension, Murray has led the Cardinals to a 14-22 record as a starter while passing for 222.7 yards per game and 5.89 net yards per attempt. He also suffered a torn ACL late in the 2022 season.

Moving Murray wouldn't be too punishing for the Cardinals. Per overthecap, they can save nearly $32.6 million against the cap by designating him a post-June 1st trade this season.

Still, that would require the Cardinals to find a trade partner. If they're unhappy with him, it may be difficult to find a team that would be excited to pay him the remaining money on his contract. Murray is still guaranteed $66.7 million in salary over the next two seasons. That may be more money than a rival team is willing to take on.

Ultimately, the Cardinals are probably stuck with Murray. That doesn't preclude them from looking ahead. Drafting a quarterback in the first couple of days of the draft to compete with him could be a savvy move.
