NFL Rumors: Aaron Rodgers Undecided on Playing in 2025
It's possible we've seen the last of Aaron Rodgers on an NFL field. While appearing on The Pat McAffe Show, the four-time MVP revealed retirement remains a distinct possibility as he sorts out aspects of his personal life.
Aaron Rodgers says on @PatMcAfeeShow: "I told every single one of the teams, it ain't about the money. I said I'll play for $10M. Whatever."

"I'm open to anything and attached to nothing. Retirement could still be a possibility. Focus on personal life."
Since being released by the New York Jets following the 2024 season, Rodgers has been linked to several teams, including the Pittsburgh Steelers, the New York Giants, the Minnesota Vikings, and even the Los Angeles Rams.On the @PatMcAfeeShow, free agent QB Aaron Rodgers says, "I'll set it all straight. From the jump, I'm in a different phase of my life, I'm 41 years old, I'm in a serious relationship, I have personal commitments I've made... and people in my inner circle battling difficult…

However, Rodgers' options have dwindled as free agency has progressed. The Rams settled their issues with quarterback Matthew Stafford, signing him to a reworked contract. The Vikings also recently closed the door on a potential hookup, apparently electing to entrust their offense to 2024 first-round pick J.J. McCarthy. Even the Giants have signed Russell Wilson, who expects to start.
The Steelers have always been the most logical (and realistic) fit for Rodgers. They've made the playoffs in four of the past five seasons, even with often middling quarterback play. They also have a credible wide receiver duo in George Pickens and the recently acquired D.K. Metcalf.
Still, the longer Rodgers waits to make a decision, the more he'll encourage the Steelers to move on. They've shown interest in Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders, and the NFL Draft is only a week away. If the Steelers land an exciting prospect at quarterback, they could decide they no longer need Rodgers.
Retirement should be a serious consideration for Rodgers, whether he likes it or not. He has been thoroughly ineffectual over his past three seasons, amassing a 14-21 record while averaging 5.85 net yards per passing attempt and 216.9 passing yards per game. If he's waiting around for a great offer and a perfect situation, it may never come. If the Steelers aren't a good fit, walking away with what's left of his dignity may be his best option.
