Report: Patriots Interested In Buccaneers' Chris Godwin
ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported that New England "might get involved" in pursuing Godwin if he becomes available, especially with Cincinnati Bengals receiver Tee Higgins expected to receive the franchise tag.
Buccaneers GM Jason Licht remains confident about re-signing Godwin, stating, "Hopefully, we can come to an agreement with him because Chris means the world to this organization."
However, with rookie quarterback Drake Maye in need of a reliable No. 1 target, the Patriots could be aggressive in their pursuit if contract talks between Godwin and Tampa Bay fall through.

Godwin would be a natural fit in New England’s offense under returning coordinator Josh McDaniels, who has long relied on versatile slot receivers.
The 29-year-old played 229 snaps in the slot last season and remains a polished route runner with the ability to create big plays after the catch. If signed, he would immediately step in as Maye’s top option, joining DeMario Douglas and a likely draft addition.
The biggest concerns are his durability—he missed half of the 2024 season with a dislocated ankle—and his expected price tag of around $60 million. CBS Sports' Tyler Sullivan noted, "If he shakes loose, however, he’d be arguably the top free-agent receiver on the market."

The Patriots are also rumored to be exploring a trade for Los Angeles Rams receiver Cooper Kupp, with The Athletic’s Chad Graff predicting they could overhaul their receiving corps by adding both veterans.
"This is going to be a bit of a dart throw, but I’ll call my shot and say the Patriots open with six receivers next year: Kupp, Godwin, a rookie drafted in the third round, DeMario Douglas, Ja’Lynn Polk, and Kayshon Boutte," Graff wrote.
With Tampa Bay extending its negotiation window with Godwin until March 12, New England is watching closely. If he hits free agency, the Patriots could make a strong push to bring him in as a key piece for Maye’s development.
