Report: One Team Targeting Russell Wilson as New Starting QB in Free Agency

The Tennessee Titans are negotiating with former Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Russell Wilson, according to multiple reports.

The Titans have kept their quarterback plans quiet this offseason, but their interest in Wilson suggests they may be looking for a veteran presence instead of drafting a rookie with the No. 1 overall pick. While many expected Tennessee to target Miami quarterback Cam Ward, signing Wilson could indicate a change in strategy.

Connor Hughes of SNY reported that the Titans are among the teams interested in Wilson, along with the New York Giants and the Steelers, who could look to bring him back.

Wilson, 36, played 11 games for the Steelers last season, throwing for 2,482 yards, 16 touchdowns, and five interceptions while completing 63.7% of his passes.

He took over the starting role in Week 7 after an early-season injury but struggled in a wild-card loss to the Baltimore Ravens. The Steelers opted not to re-sign him, and their other quarterback from last season, Justin Fields, has already signed a two-year deal with the New York Jets.

With few landing spots remaining, Tennessee presents one of Wilson’s best opportunities to compete for a starting job.

If the Titans move forward with Wilson, it could signal they are considering trading out of the top draft spot. They recently signed left tackle Dan Moore Jr. to a four-year, $80 million deal, solidifying their offensive line ahead of any quarterback decision.

Even if they do sign him, they could still draft a QB this year, and have a veteran like Wilson mentor him on the roster.

Will Levis, last year’s starter, struggled in 2024, making it unclear whether he remains in the team’s long-term plans.

A Wilson signing would not necessarily make him the unquestioned starter, but it would provide Tennessee with an experienced option while they evaluate their future at quarterback.
