NFL Trade Rumors: Philadelphia Eagles Interested in Myles Garrett

The Philadelphia Eagles are willing to chase some very big fish in pursuit of more Super Bowl glory. According to the Athletic's Dianna Russini, the Eagles have "real" interest in acquiring Cleveland Browns edge rusher Myles Garrett.

Garrett announced via social media prior to the Super Bowl he was no longer interested in playing for the Browns. His dissatisfaction reportedly stems from his eagerness to win, and he no longer believes the organization is ready to do so. The Browns, for their part, have repeatedly expressed they do not intend to trade Garrett.

Garrett has shown plenty of patience with the Browns. After going first overall in the 2017 NFL Draft, he has contributed eight exceptional seasons to the team, including six Pro Bowls, four first-team All-Pros, and a Defensive Player of the Year campaign in 2023.

Unfortunately, Garrett's excellence hasn't translated to winning football. In his eight years with the team, the Browns have only managed two winning seasons, and their future looks as bleak as ever. They finished 3-14 in 2024, and they remain stuck with quarterback Deshaun Watson, who recently re-tore his Achilles and still has two years left on a fully guaranteed $230 million contract.

With 102.5 sacks and 116 tackles for loss before his 30th birthday, Garrett is square in the prime of a Hall of Fame career, and he would be a home run acquisition for an Eagles team that just won the Super Bowl in dominant fashion. The Eagles defense already allowed the fewest yards in the league during the regular season and was similarly effective in the postseason; Garrett could make an already effective defensive line historically great.

Still, Garrett and the Eagles aren't the only parties who need to be satisfied in a trade. The Browns need to protect their own interests, and they've already assessed that Garrett is too valuable to part with lightly.

For the Eagles (or any team) to pry Garrett loose, it may require a truly historic trade compensation package, an offer the Browns couldn't refuse. In 2022, the Browns assembled a package that included three first-round picks to acquire Watson from the Houston Texans. The Eagles might have to put together a similar bid for Garrett.
