NFL Trade Rumors: Cleveland Browns Sign Myles Garrett to Record-Breaking Extension
From trade to truce and beyond: the Browns and Myles Garrett reached agreement today on a record contract extension that averages $40 million per year and includes $123.5 million in guaranteed money and now makes him the highest-paid non-QB in NFL history, sources tell ESPN.… pic.twitter.com/scNWJH2vFX

Per Schefter, the new deal will pay Garrett an astonishing $40 million per year, crushing the previous high-water mark for a non-quarterback of $35.5 million per year set by Las Vegas Raiders edge rusher Maxx Crosby earlier this offseason. Garrett's deal also includes $123.5 million guaranteed and will run through the 2030 season.
Garrett announced via social media prior to the Super Bowl he was no longer interested in playing for the Browns. His dissatisfaction reportedly stemmed from his eagerness to win, and he no longer believed the organization was ready to do so. The Browns, for their part, repeatedly expressed they did not intend to trade Garrett.
Garrett's new deal should firmly put an end to any trade speculation regarding the four-time All-Pro. The guaranteed money on his deal likely ties him to the franchise for years to come and possibly all the way up until his retirement. For now, the Browns have successfully bought his contentment.
Unfortunately, securing Garrett won't change the hopelessness of the Browns' situation. In his eight years with the team, the Browns have only managed two winning seasons, and their future looks as bleak as ever. They finished 3-14 in 2024, and they remain stuck with quarterback Deshaun Watson, who recently re-tore his Achilles and still has two years left on a fully guaranteed $230 million contract. If Garrett's ever going to win games to his satisfaction, he may have to wait a very long time.
