NFL Trade Rumors: 2 Teams Interested in Aaron Rodgers

Aaron Rodgers has a tough decision ahead of him. According to Fox Sports' Ralph Vacchiano, the four-time MVP will choose between the Pittsburgh Steelers and New York Giants for his next team based on "situation and fit."

Vacchiano also notes that money won't be a significant factor in Rodgers' decision. Per overthecap, the Steelers currently hold significantly more cap space than the Giants at $65.3 million to $22.9 million.

Of the two teams, the Steelers likely provide the more direct path to postseason contention. They've made the playoffs in four of the past five seasons, even with often middling quarterback play. They also have a credible wide receiver duo in George Pickens and the recently acquired D.K. Metcalf.

As for the Giants, it's difficult to see what they have to offer from a coaching or roster perspective. They've finished 30th or worse in points scored in four of their past five seasons and are coming off a disastrous 3-14 season. Perhaps most alarmingly, they've allowed a preposterous 133 sacks since 2023. Unless Rodgers is eager to stay in the region despite his underwhelming stint with the New York Jets, the Giants seem like a poor fit for the 41-year-old.

The fact that Rodgers hasn't already signed with a team likely indicates he hasn't loved any of the offers that have presented themselves. Unfortunately for him, he has been thoroughly ineffectual over his past three seasons, amassing a 14-21 record while averaging 5.85 net yards per passing attempt and 216.9 passing yards per game. If Rodgers is holding out hope for a more enticing team to bid for his services, he may have to wait a long time.

Ultimately, the Steelers are Rodgers' best bet at a dignified final chapter to his career, assuming they're actually interested. If they decide they'd prefer to re-sign Russell Wilson, last year's starter, Rodgers might be better off walking away from the game than risking another disastrous season with a team like the Giants.
