NFL Rumors: NY Giants 'Hoping' To Sign 1 Of 2 Quarterbacks

The New York Giants are still searching for a veteran quarterback, with Russell Wilson and Joe Flacco emerging as their top backup plans.

According to The Athletic’s Dianna Russini, the Giants are “hoping that Russell Wilson or Joe Flacco decide to come to New York.” The team remains interested in Aaron Rodgers, but with the 41-year-old taking his time to decide—possibly eyeing the Minnesota Vikings or contemplating retirement—New York has started exploring other options.

Wilson, 36, had a solid but unspectacular season with the Pittsburgh Steelers, throwing for 2,482 yards, 16 touchdowns, and five interceptions, though he struggled late in the year.

Flacco, 40, started six games for the Indianapolis Colts, finishing 2-4 with 1,761 yards, 12 touchdowns, and seven interceptions.

While Wilson and Flacco would only serve as short-term options, the Giants seem intent on pairing a veteran with a rookie quarterback.

They hold the No. 3 overall pick in the draft and have been linked to Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders. “I think that’s going to wind up being one of their backup plans,” Russini said, noting the team is still likely to draft a quarterback regardless of which veteran they sign.

As of now, Tommy DeVito is the only quarterback under contract, and last season’s group—including Daniel Jones, Drew Lock, and Tyrod Taylor—combined for just 15 touchdowns and 13 interceptions over 17 games.

If Wilson returns to Pittsburgh or Flacco chooses another team, the Giants may be left scrambling. Jameis Winston has also been brought in for a visit, but he remains a secondary option.

The Giants’ first choice is Rodgers, but if they can’t land him, they’re hoping Wilson or Flacco will be willing to step in.

Either way, the team needs stability at quarterback, and while neither option is particularly inspiring, they would provide at least a short-term upgrade as the Giants look toward the future.
