NFL Rumors: New England Patriots Meeting With Wide Receiver Stefon Diggs

The New England Patriots could turn an old rival into a core contributor. According to the Athletic's Chad Graff, former Buffalo Bills and Houston Texans wide receiver Stefon Diggs is in Foxboro to meet with the Patriots.

Diggs played the Patriots twice a year as a member of the Bills from 2020 to 2023 and routinely proved a thorn in their side. In 10 career games against the Patriots, he has nabbed 61 receptions for 779 yards and eight touchdowns.

Diggs is a four-time Pro Bowler and was once one of the league's biggest stars at his position, but there are questions as to whether or not he can still be an elite wide receiver. The Bills were content to move on from his last year, trading him to the Texans for a second-round pick. He amassed a respectable 496 receiving yards over eight appearances before a torn ACL prematurely ended his season.

Diggs is set to turn 32 years old this season and is coming off a major injury. That could scare off a lot of contending teams. Still, the Patriots are in desperate need of pass catchers. Their 17.0 points per game last season ranked 30th in the league, and their passing attack finished dead last in yards with 176.2 per game. Without a doubt, they have one of the weakest sets of wide receivers in the league.

The Patriots are a logical fit for Diggs. Given the state of their offense lately, they have nothing to lose. They can offer Diggs a significant target share and a chance to rehab his value. Plus, he'd have the opportunity to play his old team twice a year. The Patriots can't necessarily provide Diggs a realistic chance at a Super Bowl ring, but they may be his best shot at putting himself back on the map.
