Report: One Teams Sees Acquiring QB Matthew Stafford A "Top Priority"

The New York Giants have made Matthew Stafford their top priority as they search for a new quarterback this offseason.

With Daniel Jones no longer in their plans and only Tommy DeVito currently on the roster, general manager Joe Schoen is prepared to make a significant financial commitment to address the position.

ESPN’s Jordan Raanan reported that it’s "pretty clear" Stafford is the Giants’ main target, and the team has already met with his representatives at the NFL Combine.

While New York holds the third overall pick in the draft and could select a young quarterback, they appear to prefer an experienced veteran to lead the offense.

The biggest obstacle in acquiring Stafford may not be the Rams but the Las Vegas Raiders, where minority owner Tom Brady is personally recruiting him.

According to FOX Sports’ Jordan Schultz, Brady hosted Stafford at his Montana home, where the two spent time skiing and discussing a move to Las Vegas. "Brady has been leading the charge to get him to the Raiders if the Rams decide to trade him," Schultz reported.

The Raiders, now led by Pete Carroll and armed with significant cap space, could present a strong challenge to New York’s pursuit, especially if the Rams drive up the asking price as multiple teams show interest.

Despite the competition, the Giants remain aggressive and believe they can make a compelling case for Stafford.

Their roster features a promising offensive core, and rookie wide receiver Malik Nabers has already expressed excitement about the possibility of playing with him. Schoen has made it clear he’s willing to make a big move to stabilize the quarterback position, and while some around the league question whether the Rams will ultimately trade Stafford, the Giants are positioning themselves as serious contenders.

If they can outbid the Raiders and present a more appealing situation, Stafford could be leading New York’s offense in 2025.
