Report: 4 Teams "Eyeing" Rams' QB Matthew Stafford

The Los Angeles Rams and quarterback Matthew Stafford could be heading for a split, as multiple teams have expressed interest in acquiring the veteran passer.

According to Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer, the New York Giants, Cleveland Browns, Pittsburgh Steelers, and Las Vegas Raiders have all inquired about Stafford’s availability.

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported that while the Rams have a "strong interest" in keeping Stafford, his contract situation is difficult to manage, with a $49.7 million cap hit in 2025 and $53.7 million in 2026

With the Rams allowing Stafford’s representatives to speak with other teams, trade discussions are expected to intensify.

Stafford, who led the Rams to the divisional round in 2024, threw for 3,762 yards, 20 touchdowns, and eight interceptions last season.

Despite his continued success, Los Angeles faces financial challenges that make a trade or contract restructure the most realistic options. The Steelers could view Stafford as an immediate upgrade over Justin Fields and Russell Wilson, while the Giants, Browns, and Raiders are looking for quarterback stability.

The Giants reportedly inquired about Stafford before the 2024 trade deadline and could revisit the idea if they don't secure a top quarterback in the draft.

Meanwhile, both the Browns and Raiders see him as a win-now solution, though trade compensation and financial hurdles remain.

If the Rams move Stafford, the asking price could include a first-round pick, but since three of the four interested teams hold top-10 selections, future draft assets may come into play.

Breer noted that the expected suitors have "thrown their hats in the ring," and additional teams could emerge. A post-June 1 trade designation could ease Los Angeles' financial burden, but Stafford has leverage—if he refuses to rework his deal, the Rams may be forced to keep him.

As the NFL Scouting Combine gets underway, trade discussions are expected to pick up, with Stafford’s future likely to be decided in the coming weeks.
