NFL Trade Rumors: Green Bay Packers Expected to Cut Cornerback Jaire Alexander

A two-time Pro Bowler could hit the open mark soon. According to ESPN Nation Reporter Rob Demovsky, the Green Bay Packers may cut cornerback Jaire Alexander this offseason.

Demovsky cites the Packers' frustration with Alexander's inability to stay healthy as a cause for the release. The 2018 first-round pick has started a mere 34 of a possible 68 games since 2021.

Alexander has a 2025 cap charge of just under $25 million, and the Packers could save nearly $17.1 million by designating him a post-June 1st cut. They currently sit in the middle of the pack with $42.1 million of projected cap space per overthecap.

Alexander has been a poor value for the Packers for two consecutive years, missing nine games in each of the past two seasons while allowing a 100.8 passer rating on throws in his direction.

Alexander could still have upside for the right team on the right contract. There's a reason the Packers inked him to a four-year, $84 million contract back in 2022. When healthy, he has offered All-Pro level play. In 2022, he played 16 games and held opposing receivers to a brutal 63.7 passer rating.

Alexander just turned 28 years old, but he'll probably have to settle for a one-year, prove-it deal if he hits unrestricted free agency. If he can get healthy and stay motivated throughout the season, he would be a worthy gamble for many contending teams so long as he isn't too expensive. Every team in the NFL needs quality cornerbacks, and Alexander has flashed a ceiling as high as any defensive back in the league.
