NFL Rumors: Packers & Seahawks Talking DK Metcalf Trade?

Trade speculation linking the Green Bay Packers to Seattle Seahawks wide receiver DK Metcalf has surfaced, but conflicting reports leave questions about whether discussions have actually taken place.

Corbin Smith of Emerald City Spectrum reported that the Packers have inquired about Metcalf and could offer a high draft pick along with a young receiver like Romeo Doubs or Dontayvion Wicks.

With Christian Watson expected to miss significant time in 2025, Green Bay appears to be exploring ways to add a proven deep threat for Jordan Love.

However, The Athletic’s Matt Schneidman reported that sources have denied any contact between the two teams, and a separate report from Packers On SI indicated that no discussions took place during the NFL Scouting Combine. Seahawks GM John Schneider dismissed the rumors, saying, “He’s on our team.”

Metcalf, 27, is entering the final year of his contract with an $18 million base salary and a $31.9 million cap hit, making him a logical trade candidate for a Seahawks team that is currently over the salary cap.

A trade would save Seattle roughly $11 million, and while they are not actively shopping Metcalf, one team that inquired reportedly believes they have the right offer to make Schneider “strongly consider pulling the trigger.”

Packers GM Brian Gutekunst acknowledged the need for another playmaker, saying, “That’s a tough thing to do because there’s not many guys that can really run like [Watson]. But, certainly, you’d like to in some way.”

Metcalf’s ability to stretch the field—leading the league with 16 deep receptions in 2024—would give Green Bay a true No. 1 receiver as they look to build on back-to-back playoff appearances.

Even if Seattle chooses to keep Metcalf, the Packers have the cap space and draft capital to make a competitive offer.

One report suggested Green Bay could trade its first-round pick for Metcalf while attempting to recoup similar value in a separate deal for cornerback Jaire Alexander, though league executives have reportedly downplayed Alexander’s trade value due to injuries and contract concerns.
