NFL Rumors: DeAndre Hopkins Linked To NFC Team

DeAndre Hopkins is set to enter free agency after making his first Super Bowl appearance with the Kansas City Chiefs, and the Washington Commanders have emerged as a potential landing spot.

The 12-year veteran, who turns 33 in June, played a limited role in the Chiefs' 40-22 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, catching two passes for 18 yards and a touchdown.

While Hopkins remains a dependable target, Kansas City is expected to prioritize younger, more explosive playmakers. That could leave him searching for a new team, and Washington’s need for experienced pass-catchers makes them a strong fit.

With head coach Kliff Kingsbury now overseeing the Commanders' offense, a reunion with Hopkins makes sense.

The two worked together for three seasons in Arizona, where Hopkins was Kingsbury’s top receiving weapon. Now, Washington is looking to add veteran leadership around rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels, and Hopkins could slide into a complementary role alongside Terry McLaurin.

“Playing alongside a quarterback like Daniels and being part of an offense that isn’t asking him to be a No. 1 target could be an ideal situation,” a league source said.

If Washington makes an offer, Hopkins could bring a veteran presence to a team looking to take a step forward under new leadership.

After the Super Bowl loss, he spoke about his time with Patrick Mahomes, saying, “He’s human,” leading to speculation that his time in Kansas City is coming to an end.
