Report: Bill Belichick Makes NFL Decision

Bill Belichick, one of the most successful coaches in NFL history, has reportedly decided to remain at the University of North Carolina, ending speculation about a potential return to the NFL.

According to The Athletic’s Dianna Russini, Belichick “has no plans” to leave his position as the Tar Heels’ head coach, where he is focused on rebuilding the program after a 6-7 season under Mack Brown.

Since taking the reins in December, the 72-year-old has emphasized his commitment to college football, stating during his introductory press conference, “I didn’t come here to leave.”

He has been actively recruiting and preparing UNC for a challenging 2025 campaign that begins with a marquee matchup against TCU.

Interest in Belichick’s NFL return came from several teams, most notably the Las Vegas Raiders, where former quarterback and minority owner Tom Brady reportedly reached out to gauge his availability.

Brady, along with teams like the New York Jets, Chicago Bears, and New Orleans Saints, saw Belichick’s unparalleled experience as a potential catalyst for turning around struggling franchises. However, any move would require a substantial $10 million buyout before June 2025, making the transition both complicated and unlikely.

Belichick’s focus remains firmly on UNC, where he is determined to elevate the program’s standing in the ACC and solidify its future success.

Despite being just 15 wins away from surpassing Don Shula as the NFL’s all-time winningest coach, Belichick has shown no urgency to chase the record.
