Report: Bears Request Interview Cowboys Mike McCarthy

The Chicago Bears have officially requested to interview Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy as part of their search for a new leader following a disappointing 5-12 season.

McCarthy has coached for 18 years, including a Super Bowl win with the Green Bay Packers and three consecutive 12-win seasons with the Cowboys before a 7-10 finish this year.

The Bears see McCarthy as a strong candidate, particularly for his ability to develop quarterbacks, which they believe could unlock the potential of rookie Caleb Williams.

While McCarthy’s contract with Dallas runs until January 14, the Cowboys have yet to commit to his future, leaving room for speculation.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones addressed the situation, stating, “I wouldn’t want anybody coaching who didn’t want to be here,” while McCarthy has expressed his desire to remain with the team. “I have a lot invested here, and the Cowboys have a lot invested in me. At the end of the day, it is about winning, and I believe we have a very good foundation here,” McCarthy said.

Despite his public commitment to Dallas, the Bears’ interest could force the Cowboys to make a quicker decision regarding his future.

McCarthy’s proven track record, including 185 career wins and his familiarity with the NFC North, makes him one of the most intriguing options in Chicago’s coaching search.

The Bears are also considering younger candidates, including Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson and Minnesota Vikings defensive coordinator Brian Flores.

However, McCarthy’s experience and ability to bring stability to a struggling franchise make him a compelling choice.
