NFL Trade Rumors: New York Jets Interviewing Mike Vrabel for Head Coach

The New York Jets are ready to get a jump on the 2025 season. According to the Athletic's Zack Rosenblatt, the Jets are interviewing former Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Vrabel for their head coaching vacancy on Friday.

Vrabel served six seasons as the Titans head coach before a surprise split last year. He amassed a 54-45 record and three playoff appearances with a punishing brand of football that relied heavily on running back Derrick Henry.

Vrabel appears to be in high demand despite failing to secure a head coaching job last offseason. He spent the year as a coaching and personnel assistant for the Cleveland Browns, who are currently sitting on a league-worst 3-13 record.

Vrabel would be a sensible choice for a Jets organization that appears poised for a full reset this offseason. The Jets are expected to move on from quarterback Aaron Rodgers, and sweeping front office changes may be coming as well.

Vrabel could be a stabilizing presence and culture-setter through all of that tumult. As a hard-nosed, versatile linebacker and occasional tight end, Vrabel won three Super Bowls with the New England Patriots. Over a storied NFL career, he played in 206 games for three different teams, amassing 57.0 sacks, 762 tackles, and 10 receiving touchdowns. His vast experience in all phases of football could be a significant asset to a team in search of an identity.

Ultimately, Vrabel would be a safe, if uninspiring, choice for the Jets. His Titans teams may have been competitive, but they rarely flirted with true greatness. Still, after years of disappointment, maybe the Jets would be wise to set their sights a little lower and settle for competence.
