NFL Trade Rumors: Baltimore Ravens Extend Offensive Coordinator Todd Monken

The Baltimore Ravens offense is retaining its leader. According to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, the Ravens are finalizing an extension for offensive coordinator Todd Monken.

It's been an incredible five years for Monken. Monken left the NFL following the 2019 season to join the Georgia Bulldogs as their offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach. The Bulldogs won back-to-back National Championships in 2021 and 2022 with Monken calling plays, at which point he defected back to the NFL and joined the Ravens.

Over Monken's two seasons as offensive coordinator, the Ravens have been one of the league's dominant offenses. Quarterback Lamar Jackson won MVP in 2023, but that was just an appetizer: In 2024, the Ravens would go on to lead the league in net yards per passing attempt and rushing yards per attempt while scoring an excellent 30.5 points per game.

Securing Monken is great news for the Ravens. Despite his success, he has yet to draw much interest from rival teams looking to fill head coaching opportunities. Part of that may be due to his age: He's set to turn 59 in February, and has been a bit of a late bloomer.

It's also possible Monken is simply content to remain a premier coordinator for a consistently excellent unit. It wouldn't be unprecedented. From 1998 to 2008, Tom Moore served as offensive coordinator for the Indianapolis Colts and helped quarterback Peyton Manning forge a Hall of Fame career. Moore never truly entertained head coaching opportunities until he retired. Sometimes, coaches can recognize when they're a part of something special.
