BREAKING: Colts Hire Familiar Name As New Defenseive Coordinator
The Indianapolis Colts have hired Lou Anarumo as their new defensive coordinator, turning to a familiar and experienced coach to revamp a defense that struggled last season.
Anarumo, 58, spent the past six years as the Cincinnati Bengals' defensive coordinator, where he developed a reputation for crafting adaptable and opponent-specific game plans. He was instrumental in the Bengals' 2021 AFC Championship run, including a standout performance against Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs.
His hiring marks a big shift for the Colts, who parted ways with Gus Bradley after a disappointing three-year tenure.

Bringing a complex and versatile defensive philosophy, Anarumo brings a fresh approach to a Colts team eager to rebound from a frustrating 2024 campaign.
“You saw glimpses of us playing at a high level, but there were too many games where it felt like, ‘What happened?’” said defensive tackle DeForest Buckner.
Anarumo’s system, which focuses on disguises and tailored adjustments, contrasts with Bradley’s consistency-driven scheme and matches the vision of head coach Shane Steichen and general manager Chris Ballard.
The Colts believe his ability to counter top quarterbacks and elevate underperforming defenses will address the inconsistencies that plagued the team last year.

While Cincinnati’s defense struggled in 2024, finishing near the bottom in red-zone efficiency and points allowed per drive, Anarumo’s track record of building effective units remains a key factor in his hiring.
His success in orchestrating strong performances against elite offenses has earned widespread respect across the NFL.
