Report: New York Jets To Release Pro Bowl Linebacker
Mosley’s 2024 season ended after just four games due to a neck injury, marking another disappointing chapter for the 32-year-old defender.
Once considered a cornerstone of the Jets’ defense, Mosley’s five-year, $85 million contract—signed in 2019 under then-GM Mike Maccagnan—has been a long-standing financial burden.
Although he rebounded with strong performances from 2021 to 2023, including a Pro Bowl nod in 2022, the Jets can save cap space by designating him a post-June 1 cut, despite absorbing $16.4 million in dead money.

Do you think this is it for him with the #Jets❓
If it is, I'd like to thank CJ for the last 5 years, as a quality player & a leader of our team pic.twitter.com/3vlT1YUXls
Mosley’s time with the Jets has been marked by both brilliance and setbacks.
After earning four Pro Bowl selections during his first five seasons with the Baltimore Ravens, Mosley signed the record-setting deal with the Jets but missed nearly all of 2019 due to injury and opted out of the 2020 season.
In the following years, he averaged nearly 160 tackles per season and earned recognition as one of the league’s top middle linebackers, but his recent injury and the Jets’ disappointing 2024 campaign make his release a likely move as the team transitions to a new general manager.

A return to Baltimore could be on the horizon for Mosley if he hits free agency.
Analysts, including Anthony Palacios of Last Word on Sports, see the Ravens as a logical fit, citing their need for veteran leadership on defense.
Palacios suggested, "A reunion with the Baltimore Ravens shouldn’t be out of the question for Mosley... It should give them immediate help in the pass defense."
Even at 33 by the start of the 2025 season, Mosley’s experience and pedigree could make him an appealing addition for a team like the Ravens, who remain in contention for a championship.
