Report: Bears Players "Furious" With Matt Eberflus Following Disastrous Loss

The Chicago Bears' locker room erupted in fury following their Thanksgiving Day loss to the Detroit Lions, marking the breaking point in Matt Eberflus’ tenure as head coach.

Players, led by Pro Bowl cornerback Jaylon Johnson, openly confronted Eberflus, voicing their frustration over repeated coaching missteps.

Johnson, described by a teammate as “emotional and pissed, but rightfully so,” unleashed a fiery 10-to-15-minute tirade, calling out Eberflus for his poor game management.

“Jaylon went crazy,” one player told The Athletic. A staff member called the scene “ugly,” adding, “It was an accumulation of this season.”

Eberflus reportedly said little as players aired grievances about the ongoing late-game collapses that had derailed their season.

The loss to Detroit, where the Bears squandered their final timeout and failed to execute a coherent game-ending strategy, encapsulated the team’s frustrations.

Wide receiver Keenan Allen reflected the sentiment, stating, “We did enough as players to win the game.” Rookie quarterback Caleb Williams diplomatically added, “I let coaches make that decision,” when asked about the critical timeout mismanagement.

Thursday’s blunder was the latest in a series of heartbreaking losses, including a Hail Mary against the Washington Commanders and a blocked field goal versus the Green Bay Packers.

“Guys were furious,” said a staffer. “It’s been too many instances where we fought our way back into games to lose because of bad time management and decision-making.”

Eberflus was fired the next day, making him the first head coach in franchise history to be dismissed midseason.

Players expressed relief at the change, with DJ Moore stating, “Thursday at the end of the game was the last straw.”

Offensive coordinator Thomas Brown has since stepped in as interim head coach, aiming to rally a talented but disheartened roster that includes Williams.

The Bears, now 4-8 after a six-game losing streak, hope the leadership shift will spark a resurgence. “We’re going to go out there and play for [Brown],” Moore added, voicing optimism for a fresh start.
