Buckle up. When your franchise QB openly says this, Jerry is going to have a serious conversation about it.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones on @1053thefan when asked about Dak Prescott speaking highly of Mike McCarthy and wanting to see him continue being Dallas' head coach: "Dak has a vested interest in the team. He's a critical part of our success as we go forward. His thoughts and ideas…

Prescott went as far as to say he hopes McCarthy gets an extension. Jones noted that Prescott's opinions on the matter "are very important."
McCarthy has been the subject of firing rumors dating back to late last season. The Cowboys currently find themselves trying to salvage a lost season: They've won two straight after a 3-7 start to the season, but season-ending injuries to superstars like Prescott and guard Zack Martin mean a playoff push is unlikely.
McCarthy is a popular punching bag among fans, but his resume is difficult to argue with: Across 18 seasons and two different franchises, he has amassed a 172-109-2 record and even won a Super Bowl in 2010 with the Green Bay Packers. He's also easily one of the most accomplished offensive minds in football, having served as head coach or offensive coordinator for 11 offenses that achieved top-five finishes in points scored, including three times with the Cowboys.
No Cowboys player has benefitted more from that success than Prescott. The former third-round pick finished second in MVP voting last season. As a result, he earned a record-breaking four-year, $240 million extension before the 2024 season. McCarthy's tenure with Prescott has been not only productive but lucrative.
Still, football is a what-have-you-done-for-me-lately sport, and McCarthy's recent postseason achievements have left much to be desired. The Cowboys have only had one playoff win since McCarthy joined the organization in 2020, and fans (as well as maybe some players) are clearly losing patience. If they do indeed bring him back in 2025, no head coach will face greater scrutiny.
