NFL Trade Rumors: San Francisco 49ers Expect Quarterback Brock Purdy Back for Week 13

The San Francisco 49ers aren't too worried about their franchise passer's mysterious injury. According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the 49ers believe quarterback Brock Purdy will be ready to go next Sunday against the Buffalo Bills despite missing this week's game against the Green Bay Packers with shoulder soreness.

Purdy was a surprise inactive this week despite playing 100% of the snaps in the 49ers' Week 11 loss to the Seattle Seahawks. He experienced soreness throughout the week, but the team reportedly felt good about his situation following an MRI.

The 49ers can downplay the seriousness of Purdy's injury, but the fact that his pain is severe enough to keep him out of action this week does not bode well for their season. They're already 5-5 through 10 games, and losses in the coming weeks to contenders like the Packers and Bills could leave them on the outside looking in this postseason.

If Purdy's injury lingers, it could also complicate the 49ers' future beyond this year. Purdy notably suffered a torn UCL in the 2022 NFC Championship game that put his career at risk. The former Mr. Irrelevant will be extension-eligible this offseason and has earned a deal that will make him one of the league's highest-paid players, but another complicated injury could make locking him up a tough pill to swallow.

Ultimately, Purdy's injury could be just a brief bout of bad luck, even if it ends up costing the 49ers their last chance at a playoff berth this year. At only 24 years old, Purdy has already led the 49ers to multiple NFC Championship game appearances. He's also averaged an amazing 8.10 net yards per passing attempt for his career, with 236.2 passing yards per game. They should feel confident they've found their franchise quarterback.
