NFL Trade Rumors: Jacksonville Jaguars Quarterback Trevor Lawrence Expected to Miss Week 10
The Jacksonville Jaguars could be without their franchise passer this week and potentially even longer. According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence is expected to miss Sunday's matchup against the Minnesota Vikings due to an injury to his non-throwing shoulder.
No surgery scheduled, Jay. There are several options immediate and down the road. That's one of them. He's considered day-to-day with a left shoulder.

But as he considers these options, Trevor Lawrence will likely not play Sunday. Mac Jones is the backup. https://t.co/xHnfzRUA1q
Lawrence played every snap of the Jaguars' 29-23 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 9, so his unavailability this week comes as a surprise. If Lawrence eventually opts for surgery, he would likely miss multiple weeks.
The Jaguars signed veteran quarterback C.J. Beathard earlier this week, but he is only expected to serve as a backup behind former New England Patriots first-round pick Mac Jones. Jones started 11 games for the Patriots last season, averaging 192.7 passing yards per game for an offense that scored an NFL-worst 13.9 points per game.
Given the Jaguars are already saddled with a 2-7 record and are functionally out of the playoff hunt, there's no reason to rush Lawrence back to the field. He has struggled over his nine starts this season, averaging a modest 222.7 passing yards per game at a middling 6.38 net yards per attempt. The Jaguars shouldn't risk further injury to Lawrence in what appears to be a lost season.
The Jaguars need to begin looking to the future. Lawrence isn't going anywhere; They signed him to a five-year, $275 million extension this past offseason. If they're going to get value out of that deal, it appears they'll need radical organizational changes. Lawrence has won only 22 of his 59 starts, and 2024 has a chance to be his worst season since his rookie season. Bottoming out this year and starting from the ground up in 2025 with a new head coach is the Jaguars' best option.
