NFL Trade Rumors: Cornerback Marshon Lattimore Could Make Washington Commanders Debut in Week 13

The Washington Commanders could finally see returns on a dramatic mid-season trade. According to head coach Dan Quinn, former New Orleans Saints cornerback Marshon Lattimore will practice on Wednesday for the first time since joining the Commanders. The Commanders acquired Lattimore (and a 2024 fifth-round pick) at the trade deadline in exchange for a third-round pick, a fourth-round pick, and a sixth-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. A lingering hamstring injury has kept him out of action since the Saints' 26-8 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 8.

Lattimore is a four-time Pro Bowler who is only 28 years old, so his healthy return could pay huge dividends for the Commanders. When available, Lattimore was still thriving despite the Saints' struggles this season, allowing an excellent 69.1 passer rating and 5.2 yards per target on passes in his direction over his seven starts.

The Commanders defense has drastically improved after finishing dead last in the league in points allowed (30.5 per game) and yards allowed (388.9 yards per game) in 2024, but issues remain. Their 6.3 net yards per passing attempt this season currently ranks 19th in the league, and a cornerback of Lattimore's calibre could significantly improve that.

Overall, the Commanders need some good news. They've lost three straight after a scintillating 7-2 start, and they need to do something to stop the bleeding if they're going to hold onto a Wildcard spot. Lattimore's debut could be just what the doctor ordered.
