NFL Rumors: Giants Might Make Quarterback Change

The New York Giants are entering their bye week amid mounting pressure to bench quarterback Daniel Jones following a 20-17 overtime loss to the Carolina Panthers.

With a 2-8 record and offensive struggles that show little sign of improvement, head coach Brian Daboll hinted at potential changes.

Jones, who signed a four-year, $160 million contract last year, has not lived up to expectations, throwing two costly interceptions in the red zone against Carolina’s league-worst defense.

“We’ve got a lot of work to do here in the next few days, and we’ll evaluate where we’re at and what we need to do,” Daboll said, leaving open the possibility of a quarterback switch.

Jones’s performance on Sunday epitomized the Giants’ ongoing offensive woes. He finished 22-of-37 for 190 yards and managed a rushing touchdown, but his two interceptions erased scoring opportunities and added to fans’ frustrations.

The most glaring mistake came late in the fourth quarter, with the Giants poised on the Carolina 8-yard line, when Jones forced a pass that was intercepted, costing New York a potential go-ahead score.

Despite his inconsistency, Daboll resisted pulling Jones mid-game, later explaining, “I thought we could get something going... but did not.”

With the bye week offering time to make adjustments, the Giants may consider turning to backups Drew Lock or Tommy DeVito, both of whom could provide a fresh start.

The team’s offense ranks among the lowest in the league, averaging just 15.6 points per game, and Daboll’s comments suggest he may finally be willing to explore alternatives.

While Jones’s contract complicates his future with potential injury guarantees, the Giants could use the remaining games to evaluate their other options.
