NFL Rumors: Daniel Jones Has Chosen His Next Team

Former New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones has reportedly chosen the Minnesota Vikings as his next team after being released last week by the Giants.

NFL insider Josina Anderson revealed that Jones had "zeroed in on a 'leading choice'" last night.

Despite receiving interest from at least ten teams, Jones prioritized joining a playoff contender, even if it meant accepting a backup role. "

The understanding is that Jones wants to join a team where he can compete for meaningful games," Anderson noted.

Among the strongest suitors were the Baltimore Ravens and Minnesota Vikings, though both would likely offer him a reserve role behind Lamar Jackson and Sam Darnold, respectively, which is expected to happen now that he's signed with Minnesota.

The Las Vegas Raiders, who recently lost Gardner Minshew to a season-ending collarbone injury, made a push for Jones, offering a potential starting opportunity.

However, their dismal 2-9 record led Jones to "eliminate Las Vegas from his consideration," as reported by Jordan Schultz.

Meanwhile, the San Francisco 49ers emerged as a "very real" contender, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. With uncertainty surrounding Brock Purdy’s recovery from a shoulder injury, the thought was Jones could provide solid depth for a 49ers team still in the playoff hunt.

At 27, Jones is aiming to rejuvenate his career after an inconsistent season with the Giants, during which he threw for 2,070 yards, eight touchdowns, and seven interceptions behind a struggling offensive line.

NFL analyst Jay Glazer spoke on Jones's appeal, saying, "The interest from playoff teams speaks to his value in the right system."

We'll see what kind of role he'll have, and if he can rejuvenate his career, in Minnesota.
