Insider: "I Would Guess Daniel Jones Doesn't Play Another Down For Giants"

NFL insider Adam Schefter believes that Daniel Jones’ time as the New York Giants’ starting quarterback may be coming to an end.

Reflecting on the Giants' 2-8 record and Jones' struggles this season, Schefter pointed to a major shift in head coach Brian Daboll’s tone as an indicator of change.

"I would guess that we don’t see Daniel Jones play another down for the Giants," Schefter remarked. Daboll, who had previously affirmed Jones as the starter, now says the team is “evaluating everything,” leaving Jones' position uncertain as they head into their bye week.

Jones’ inconsistent performance, marked by eight touchdown passes, seven interceptions, and a 46.3 QBR, has contributed to the team’s dismal season.

Complicating matters is a $23 million injury guarantee in Jones’ contract, which would become a financial liability if he sustains a serious injury and cannot pass a physical by next March.

“They can’t risk... having a guy out there with a $23 million injury guarantee that you’re not going to be committed to next year,” Schefter explained, likening the situation to the Denver Broncos’ decision to bench Russell Wilson under similar circumstances last season.

With the Giants likely in position for a top pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, Schefter hinted that the organization might be ready to move on from Jones and explore new quarterback options.

Should the team bench Jones to avoid the injury risk, backups Drew Lock and Tommy DeVito would likely step in.

“The Daniel Jones experience in New York is over,” Schefter concluded, suggesting the Giants may be turning the page on their former starter in favor of a fresh direction at quarterback.
