Denver Broncos Release Former Promising Tight End

The Denver Broncos have officially released tight end Greg Dulcich, their 2022 third-round pick, following a tenure marred by injuries and inconsistency.

Dulcich showcased potential as a rookie, recording 33 catches for 411 yards and two touchdowns in just 10 games.

However, persistent hamstring injuries significantly limited his availability and effectiveness. This season, he struggled to make an impact, managing only five receptions for 28 yards in four appearances before being benched as a healthy scratch.

Head coach Sean Payton had envisioned Dulcich in a versatile "joker" role within his offense but noted earlier in the year that injuries had hindered the tight end's ability to contribute. “It’s unfortunate, but roster decisions are about performance and availability,” an insider explained.

Dulcich's release coincides with the Broncos activating linebacker Drew Sanders from injured reserve and addressing ongoing roster adjustments.

Denver’s tight end room now consists of Adam Trautman, Lucas Krull, and Nate Adkins, who have combined for modest production this season but offer greater reliability.

By cutting ties with Dulcich, the Broncos save $1.183 million in cap space, though they incur $251,207 in dead money.

The team reportedly explored trade options before ultimately opting to waive him.

Despite his struggles, Dulcich remains an intriguing prospect for teams in need of a young, athletic tight end. He will pass through waivers, where his affordable salary and remaining contract through 2025 could attract interest.

If unclaimed, he would become a free agent, free to seek a fresh start elsewhere.

As one team source noted, “The NFL is all about availability, and unfortunately for Greg, injuries have made that his biggest challenge.”
