Bills Sign Defensive Tackle, Marking His 3rd Stint With Team

The Buffalo Bills are reportedly reuniting with veteran defensive tackle Jordan Phillips, marking his third stint with the team.

Released by the Dallas Cowboys on NFL trade deadline day, Phillips quickly hinted at his return by posting a photo of himself in a Bills uniform with the caption, "run it back."

While the team has yet to confirm the signing, his post and recent reports strongly suggest he’s set to rejoin Buffalo, where he’s had some of the best performances of his career, including a standout 2019 season with 9.5 sacks.

Phillips initially joined the Bills in 2018 after being claimed off waivers from Miami, quickly thriving in Sean McDermott’s system and building a reputation for his energy and playmaking ability.

His breakout season in 2019 earned him a three-year, $30 million deal with the Arizona Cardinals, but injuries limited his production there.

Phillips returned to Buffalo in 2022, contributing 35 tackles and four sacks over the next two seasons.

After brief stints with the New York Giants and Dallas Cowboys earlier this season, Phillips is returning to familiar territory, where he’s made his biggest impact.

For the Bills, Phillips' timing couldn’t be better.

With rookie DeWayne Carter sidelined due to a wrist injury and the defense allowing an average of 4.8 yards per carry, Buffalo is in need of a proven disruptor up front.

“Jordan’s intensity and love for Buffalo have always stood out,” said a source close to the team, noting his familiarity with McDermott’s scheme and his established chemistry with teammates.
