NFL Trade Rumors: New York Jets Quarterback Aaron Rodgers Suffers Ankle Injury

The New York Jets appear to have narrowly avoided catastrophe. Speaking with the media on Monday morning, head coach Robert Saleh revealed that quarterback Aaron Rodgers suffered a low-ankle sprain during yesterday's 23-17 loss to the Minnesota Vikings. Saleh also noted that all preliminary tests on Rodgers indicated the four-time MVP will be fine.

Rodgers took a beating in arguably his worst game of the season in London on Sunday morning. He absorbed three sacks and threw a season-high three interceptions, including a game-sealing pick near the goal line in the game's final minute. He also averaged a season-low 3.82 net yards per passing attempt on a colossal 57 dropbacks.

Though Rodgers avoiding a more serious injury, such as a high-ankle sprain or ankle break, is certainly good news, the possibility of his mobility suffering in the coming weeks should worry Jets fans. He's 40 years old and coming off an Achilles injury that cost him all but four snaps of the 2023 season, and the Jets have hardly hit the ground running through five weeks. Rodgers' 199 net passing yards per game this season are on pace for a career-low, and the Jets have failed to supplement him with a running game: their 80.4 rushing yards per game are the fewest in the league. Any further regression could reduce them to one of the worst offenses in the league.

The Jets aren't licked quite yet. In fact, a Week 6 win over the Buffalo Bills on Monday Night Football will give them the lead in the AFC East. Still, the current state of their offense is clearly untenable, and they need to consider serious adjustments. They've long been rumored as a trade destination for Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Davante Adams; that would be a good start.
