NFL Trade Rumors: New York Jets Edge Rusher Haason Reddick Ends Holdout

The New York Jets could be a radically different team in the coming weeks. According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, former Philadelphia Eagles edge rusher Haason Reddick has agreed to an "adjusted" contract and will report to the Jets on Monday.

The Jets acquired Reddick from the Eagles earlier this offseason for a conditional 2026 draft pick partly because the Eagles were unwilling to extend the two-time Pro Bowler. When the Jets suddenly appeared equally obstinate, Reddick quickly began a holdout. He has yet to attend a single Jets practice or game so far this season.

The Jets' reluctance to pay Reddick was always curious, particularly because his desire for an extension was well-known in Philadelphia. He's in the final year of a three-year, $45 million deal that turned out to be a bargain, and he's likely looking for a deal commensurate with the top pass rushers in the league, something in the neighborhood of the $28.25 million per year contract Brian Burns signed with the New York Giants earlier this offseason.

Reddick is unquestionably an elite player still in his prime, and he could provide the Jets defense with a significant boost. He has notched an excellent 50.5 total sacks over his last four seasons, and the Jets' already dominant pass defense (4.8 net yards per passing attempt allowed, third-fewest in the league) could be absolutely suffocating with his added presence on the edge.

Ultimately, there's a chance that Reddick's addition may be too little too late for the Jets. They've amassed a 2-4 record through six weeks, and they're clearly scrambling to salvage a potentially lost season. They added former Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Davante Adams via trade earlier this week after firing head coach Robert Saleh and stripping offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett of play-calling duties following a Week 5 17-23 loss to the Minnesota Vikings in London, England. If the Jets can't turn around their season soon, starting with tonight's Sunday Night Football matchup with the Pittsburgh Steelers, all their turnover could go to waste.
