NFL Trade Rumors: New York Jets Edge Rusher Haason Reddick Seeking to End Holdout

The New York Jets may have another significant change to their team coming. According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, former Philadelphia Eagles edge rusher Haason Reddick has hired mega-agents Drew Rosenhaus and Ryan Matha in the hopes of resolving the holdout that has kept him away from the Jets since March.

The Jets acquired Reddick from the Eagles earlier this offseason for a conditional 2026 draft pick partly because the Eagles were unwilling to extend the two-time Pro Bowler. When the Jets suddenly appeared equally obstinate, Reddick quickly began a holdout. He has yet to attend a single Jets practice or game so far this season.

The Jets have experienced massive turnover over the past week, firing head coach Robert Saleh and stripping offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett of play-calling duties. If the Jets are truly desperate to save their season, it's possible they'd be willing to come to the table and negotiate in earnest with Reddick. At least, that appears to be what Reddick believes.

The Jets' reluctance to pay Reddick was always curious, particularly because his desire for an extension was well-known in Philadelphia. He's in the final year of a three-year, $45 million deal that turned out to be a bargain, and he's likely looking for a deal commensurate with the top pass rushers in the league, something in the neighborhood of the $28.25 million per year contract Brian Burns signed with the New York Giants earlier this offseason.

Reddick is unquestionably an elite player still in his prime, and he could provide the Jets defense with a significant boost. He has notched an excellent 50.5 total sacks over his last four seasons, and the Jets' already dominant pass defense would be absolutely suffocating with his added presence on the edge. If the Jets truly intend to salvage their 2024 season, making peace with Reddick would be a great start.
