NFL Trade Rumors: New York Giants Wide Receiver Malik Nabers to Miss Week 6

The New York Giants will be without their rookie star for at least one more week. According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Giants have ruled out wide receiver Malik Nabers for Week 6's showdown with the Cincinnati Bengals. Nabers went down with a concussion late in the Giants' Week 4 Thursday Night Football 20-15 loss to the Dallas Cowboys. He has yet to resume practicing.

The Giants selected Nabers sixth overall in the 2024 NFL Draft with an eye toward making him the center of their passing attack. In the opening four weeks of the season, they tasked him with a workload seldom seen for NFL rookies. In a little under four full games, he saw a staggering 52 targets, and his 35 total receptions still lead the league.

The fact that Nabers remains unavailable should be a significant concern for the Giants. Not only are they dreadfully thin at wide receiver in his absence, but the lingering effects of his concussion indicate that they may need to scale back his role when he returns. It takes a certain amount of durability to handle the volume the Giants were throwing at Nabers, and he may not possess it.

In the meantime, the Giants will attempt to make due this week against the Bengals. They put together a strong showing in their 29-20 win over the Seattle Seahawks in Week 5 without Nabers, cobbling together season highs in first downs (24), total yards (420), and rushing yards (175). Considering the Bengals rank 31st in the league in points allowed at 29.0 per game, the Giants offense should have a reasonable shot at replicating last week's success.
