NFL Trade Rumors: Las Vegas Raiders Wide Receiver Davante Adams "Wants to Play for the Jets"

Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Davante Adams has made his intentions clear. According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the three-time All-Pro wants to be traded to the New York Jets but remains open to landing with other teams if the Raiders get a better offer.

The Raiders were reportedly reluctant to trade Adams earlier this week, but Adams has since made his feelings known that he would like a change of scenery. He signed an extension with the Raiders in 2022 in part to reunite with college teammate Derek Carr, who the Raiders later cut prior to the 2023 season.

The Jets are a natural fit for Adams. They start former Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers, Adams's teammate. Adams helped Rodgers win three MVPs from 2014 to 2021, and the Packers even finished as the league's top-scoring offense in 2014 and 2020. The Jets also have the necessary cap space to absorb what remains of Adams's $16.89 million 2024 salary.

Still, the Raiders could have many other suitors vying for Adams's services. The Kansas City Chiefs, Pittsburgh Steelers, Buffalo Bills, Baltimore Ravens, Dallas Cowboys, and the New Orleans Saints all have needs at wide receiver and are in the thick of the playoff hunt. The Saints even start Adams's old friend Carr at quarterback. The Raiders may want to work with Adams, but that won't stop them from trading him to the highest bidder.

Ultimately, Adams will be a high-risk, high-reward gamble for whatever team acquires him. Adams declined steeply in 2023, accounting for his lowest yards per game (67.3) and yards per target (6.5) since at least 2017. He's been marginally better this year, but his exorbitant salaries in 2025 ($35.64 million) and 2026 ($36.64 million) could mean he ends up being a one-year rental. Teams will be reluctant to pay those numbers to a 32-year-old wide receiver, even if Adams has a truly spectacular end to the 2024 season.

Whoever pursues Adams would have to believe they have a precious and rare chance at Super Bowl glory this season. That points yet again to the Jets. Rodgers will turn 41 in December, and head coach Robert Saleh probably can't afford another lost season after opening his career with an 18-33 record over his first three years. If the Jets are going to win it all, they likely have to do it this year. That desperation could mean the Jets make the Raiders an offer they can't refuse, and Adams gets his wish.
