NFL Trade Rumors: Las Vegas Raiders May Hold Onto Wide Receiver Davante Adams

The Las Vegas Raiders may not be ready to cut bait on their All-Pro wide pass catcher. According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Raiders are willing to hold onto wide receiver Davante Adams if no team meets their asking price of a second-round pick.

Schefter also notes that the Raiders aren't willing to absorb more than their fair share of Adams' salary. Adams has a little under $11 million remaining in 2024 salary, and that's a number that would be difficult for a lot of contending teams to create cap space for.

Reportedly, teams haven't exactly been banging down the door of the Raiders' front-office in order to acquire Adams, particularly given the fact that a hamstring injury has cost him the last two games. At 2-3, the Raiders aren't totally out of the playoff hunt. Until their season is hopeless, they don't need to do Adams or any rival teams any favors.

Ultimately, Adams is a high-risk, high-reward gamble for a contending team. Adams declined steeply in 2023, accounting for his lowest yards per game (67.3) and yards per target (6.5) since at least 2017. He's been marginally better this year, but his exorbitant salaries in 2025 ($35.64 million) and 2026 ($36.64 million) could mean he ends up being a one-year rental. Teams will be reluctant to pay those numbers to a 32-year-old wide receiver, even if Adams has a truly spectacular end to the 2024 season.

The NFL trade deadline is November 5th, so the Raiders still have plenty of time to play hardball. Adams' recovery and the Raiders' fortunes in the coming weeks could change their mind, but they're smart to wait until suitors are truly desperate.
