NFL Trade Rumors: Green Bay Packers Suspend Wide Receiver Romeo Doubs

Tensions are apparently mounting in Green Bay. According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Green Bay Packers have placed wide receiver Romeo Doubs on the reserve/suspended list for one game due to "conduct detrimental to the team."

Doubs was an unexcused absence during Wednesday and Thursday practices, allegedly due to his dissatisfaction with his role on the team. He has seen 20 targets so far this season while playing 81.16% of the offensive snaps, a team-high among wide receivers.

Doubs is in the third year of his rookie contract after entering the league as a fourth-round pick, so he's on the precipice of his first opportunity at a major NFL contract. He'll be extension-eligible for the first time in his career this offseason.

Still, alienating the Packers is hardly the way to land a payday. He won't hit free agency until 2026, and a reduced role and a lousy reputation will keep big money out of reach. He hasn't exactly shown that he has an indispensable skillset so far in his career: He's amassed a respectable but not exceptional 113 catches for 1268 yards and 11 touchdowns over 34 games.

Maybe Doubs will get the message and return to the Packers focused and renewed in Week 6. In the meantime, squabbles like this are an unwanted and unnecessary distraction. It might be best for the Packers (and for Doubs) to sever their relationship and work out a trade in the coming weeks.
