NFL Rumors: Jets Exploring Trade For Wide Receiver

The New York Jets are reportedly exploring trade options for wide receiver Mike Williams after their blockbuster acquisition of Davante Adams, reuniting the All-Pro with quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

Williams, who joined the Jets on a one-year, $10 million deal this offseason, has struggled to make an impact in a now-crowded receiver room. With Adams, Garrett Wilson, and Allen Lazard locked into key roles, Williams has become the odd man out.

Through six games, he has logged just 10 receptions for 145 yards, and his recent misstep in the Jets' 23-20 loss to the Buffalo Bills has only fueled speculation about his uncertain future.

“It’s gotta be down the red line,” Rodgers said postgame, expressing frustration after a miscommunication on a critical play led to a game-sealing interception.

In addition to his limited production, injuries and a lack of chemistry with Rodgers have hampered Williams’ ability to secure a meaningful role.

Williams, who is still recovering from a torn ACL suffered in 2023, faced criticism from Rodgers for running the wrong route and slipping on the pivotal play against Buffalo.

Insiders, including NBC Sports’ Jordan Schultz, report that the Jets are actively shopping Williams, with Rodgers losing trust in the veteran receiver. “The current receiver room is just too crowded,” Schultz noted, adding that Williams is unlikely to retain a significant role moving forward.

Several teams have emerged as potential landing spots for Williams, including the Dallas Cowboys, Pittsburgh Steelers, and a possible reunion with the Los Angeles Chargers.

Some analysts also speculate that the Kansas City Chiefs could be a fit if the Jets agree to retain part of his salary, given his size and contested-catch ability.

However, injury concerns and declining separation numbers could limit his trade value. With Adams now at the forefront of the Jets' offense, it seems inevitable that Williams will be moved soon as the team reshuffles its roster.
