Report: Packers Have Reached Out To Veteran Quarterback

The Green Bay Packers have reportedly reached out to free-agent quarterback Ryan Tannehill following Jordan Love’s MCL injury, which occurred during the team’s Week 1 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.

According to Dianna Russini of The Athletic, Tannehill is being considered as a potential veteran option to stabilize the Packers' quarterback situation, as Love is expected to miss three to six weeks.

Tannehill, 36, remains one of the most experienced quarterbacks available after his five-year tenure with the Tennessee Titans, and while he has expressed interest in returning to the NFL, he has made it clear that it would need to be the "right situation" for him.

The Packers recently acquired Malik Willis in a trade with the Titans at the roster cut deadline, and Willis is expected to start in Week 2 against the Indianapolis Colts.

However, Green Bay's interest in Tannehill suggests they are exploring additional depth and experience at the position.

Despite this, conflicting reports have surfaced, with NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero stating that the Packers have not formally pursued Tannehill.

Green Bay has around $16 million in cap space, giving them some flexibility to sign Tannehill if they choose to move forward, though it may require restructuring other contracts to fit him under the cap.

The key question is whether Tannehill would be willing to join the Packers in a potentially short-term role, as Love could return within a month.

While Tannehill would bring valuable experience to the Packers, his decision may depend on the opportunity to have a longer-term impact.
