NFL Trade Rumors: Miami Dolphins Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa Suffers Another Concussion

The Miami Dolphins and their franchise passer are facing some very serious questions. Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa suffered a concussion in the second half of Thursday Night Football's matchup with the Buffalo Bills, prematurely ending his night and calling his immediate future into question.

Tagovailoa suffered the injury while diving for a first down deep in Bills territory. Tagovailoa drove his helmet into Bills defender Damar Hamlin's chest on his way to the ground. He immediately appeared woozy, and the game was quickly stopped while Dolphins players and trainers rushed to his aid.

Tagovailoa notably suffered a series of concussions during the 2022 season that were so severe he considered retirement. Tagovailoa went on to start 17 games in 2023, even leading the league in passing yards and earning a massive four-year, $212.4 million extension this offseason.

The Dolphins don't play again until a Week 3 Sunday afternoon matchup with the Seattle Seahawks, but hoping Tagovailoa can take the field again by then feels crass. If only to spare fans some dread, the Dolphins should ensure Tagovailoa takes time to heal.

In the meantime, the Dolphins should consider improving at backup quarterback. Skylar Thompson hasn't gotten it done over his seven appearances since 2022: his 4.5 net yards per passing attempt and 1:3 touchdown-to-interception ratio are evidence of that. The Dolphins should investigate the free agent and trade market. Former Tennessee Titans quarterback Ryan Tannehill remains available. He started 88 games for the Dolphins from 2012 to 2018.
