NFL Trade Rumors: Jacksonville Jaguars Place Cornerback Tyson Campbell on Injured Reserve

The Jacksonville Jaguars will be without one of their young stars for at least four weeks. The team placed fourth-year cornerback Tyson Campbell on injured reserve Thursday following Week 1's 20-17 loss to the Miami Dolphins.

Campbell suffered a hamstring injury during Sunday's defeat. He played 53 defensive snaps and didn't allow a completion on two throws in his direction. The Jaguars moved cornerback Tre Flowers from their practice squad to the active roster in a corresponding move.

Campbell is one of the Jaguars' most promising young players, and his absence will stretch their pass defense in the weeks to come. He's coming off a rough 2023 regular season (128.5 passer rating allowed on 62 throws in his direction), but the Jaguars clearly value him highly: They signed him to a four-year, $76.5 million contract earlier this offseason in the first year of his extension eligibility.

The Jaguars are entering a crucial stretch of their schedule that includes games against the Cleveland Browns, Buffalo Bills, Houston Texans, and Indianapolis Colts, so Campbell's injury is highly unfortunate timing. All four of those teams should expect to compete for the playoffs, and a series of losses could leave the Jaguars in a terrible position as far as tie-breakers and seeding are concerned.
