NFL Trade Rumors: 49ers Attempted Trade For Raiders' Wide Receiver

The San Francisco 49ers reportedly made a serious attempt to acquire Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Jakobi Meyers before finalizing a contract extension with their own star receiver, Brandon Aiyuk.

According to NFL insiders Mike Silver of the San Francisco Chronicle and Vic Tafur of The Athletic, the 49ers reached out to the Raiders as part of their contingency plans during contract negotiations with Aiyuk.

Meyers, who had a productive 2023 season with 71 receptions for 807 yards and eight touchdowns, was seen as a cost-effective alternative should the team have failed to reach a deal with Aiyuk.

However, despite speculation that the Raiders might be willing to trade key veterans for draft capital in a rebuilding phase, they declined the 49ers' offers.

Meyers, who signed a three-year, $33 million deal with the Raiders in March 2023, would have provided San Francisco with a reliable target at a lower price point than Aiyuk’s eventual contract.

The 49ers also inquired about Denver Broncos receiver Courtland Sutton, but those talks didn’t gain traction.

In the end, the 49ers successfully negotiated a four-year, $120 million extension with Aiyuk, solidifying his role as their leading receiver.

Meanwhile, Meyers continues to play a significant role in the Raiders’ offense, contributing 61 yards on three receptions in their 2024 season opener.
