NFL Rumors: Raiders Could Make Quarterback Change

Las Vegas Raiders head coach Antonio Pierce is leaving the door open for a quarterback change ahead of the team’s Week 4 matchup against the Cleveland Browns.

After a 36–22 blowout loss to the Carolina Panthers, Pierce hinted that current starter Gardner Minshew’s role might be in jeopardy.

Minshew, who has started the first three games of the season, struggled in the loss, throwing an interception late in the fourth quarter before being replaced by second-year quarterback Aidan O’Connell.

Pierce inserted O’Connell in an attempt to "look for a spark," and the young quarterback responded by leading the Raiders on a 13-play, 70-yard touchdown drive.

Pierce has yet to make a final decision on who will start in Week 4, emphasizing the need to evaluate the team's overall performance.

“We’ve gotta get with the players and just evaluate everything from yesterday first,” Pierce told reporters, leaving open the possibility of O’Connell taking over.

O'Connell, who started 10 games as a rookie in 2023, showed promise in limited action against Carolina, completing 9 of 12 passes for 82 yards and a touchdown in garbage time.

His efficient play has sparked discussions about whether a change under center could help jumpstart the Raiders' offense moving forward.

Minshew, who signed with the Raiders this offseason, has a 1-2 record, throwing for 747 yards, three touchdowns, and three interceptions through three games.

While Pierce has not ruled out sticking with Minshew, his comments indicate that "business decisions" are being considered across the board following the team's disappointing performance.
