Injury Update on Los Angeles Rams Wide Receiver Cooper Kupp

The Los Angeles Rams are facing a massive injury dilemma at wide receiver. According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, wide receiver Cooper Kupp was seen leaving State Farm Stadium in a walking boot following the Rams' 41-10 demolition at the hands of the Arizona Cardinals.

Kupp exited last night's blowout following an ankle injury. He was declared doubtful to return, and he'll undergo testing today to discern whether he's dealing with a high or a low ankle sprain. He nabbed four of six targets for 37 yards in a little under two quarters.

An extended absence from Kupp would be an absolute disaster for the Rams. They recently placed 2023 Offensive Rookie of the Year Puka Nacua on injured reserve and expect him to miss 5-7 weeks. Kupp was expected to shoulder the load in the meantime: He saw an outrageous 21 targets in Week 1.

Unfortunately, injuries have become a persistent issue for Kupp. He has missed 13 total games since his astonishing 2021 season. That year, he led the league in catches (145), receiving yards (1947), and receiving touchdowns (16) on his way to winning Super Bowl MVP. He's failed to eclipse 1000 yards in any season since, and the Rams are sitting on a 15-21 record since their championship win.

If yesterday's game is any indication of how the Rams might look without Nacua and Kupp, it could be a long season. They can only afford to lose so much talent. Their upcoming schedule includes games against the San Francisco 49ers, Chicago Bears, and Green Bay Packers before a Week 6 bye. If Kupp requires a trip to injured reserve, the Rams will struggle to pick up even a single win until his return.
