Cleveland Browns Sign 6-Year Veteran Running Back

The Cleveland Browns have added to their running back depth by signing veteran Royce Freeman to their practice squad, addressing a growing list of injuries in their backfield.

Freeman, a former third-round pick out of Oregon in 2018, has played for several NFL teams, including the Denver Broncos, Carolina Panthers, Houston Texans, and Los Angeles Rams.

During the 2023 season with the Rams, Freeman appeared in 14 games, rushing for 319 yards and two touchdowns.

Most recently, he spent the 2024 preseason with the Dallas Cowboys before being released in late August.

Freeman’s addition comes at a crucial time for the Browns, as star running back Nick Chubb remains on the PUP list until at least Week 5, and backup Pierre Strong Jr. is sidelined week-to-week with a hamstring injury.

With Jerome Ford and D’Onta Foreman currently handling the majority of the carries, Freeman brings experience and versatility as both a runner and a receiver out of the backfield.

His familiarity with various offensive schemes could ease his transition into the Browns' system, offering immediate support if needed.
