Trades to Make: New York Jets Edge Rusher Haason Reddick

With the NFL regular season coming up fast, teams are finalizing their rosters. However, there's still time for an aggressive team to shake up the league with a savvy trade. Here are the top remaining trade candidates who could be the difference between contention and disappointment for the right franchise.

Edge Rusher Haason Reddick

One of the NFL's elite edge rushers, Haason Reddick is a two-time Pro Bowler on the verge of wearing out his welcome on his second team in a calendar year. After an extension with the Philadelphia Eagles failed to materialize, Reddick was traded to the New York Jets earlier this offseason, only to be met with yet another team unwilling to do business. Now, he's looking for a new home.

Reddick's inability to secure an extension is curious because he's unquestionably an elite player still in his prime. He has notched an excellent 50.5 total sacks over his last four seasons, and he's still only 29 years old. He's set to earn a relatively affordable $15 million in the final year of his contract, a three-year, $45 million deal that he has thoroughly outplayed. If he can be pried loose from the Jets, he could be an asset to any defensive front.

Who should be interested?

Reddick has already burned bridges with a pair of contending teams unwilling to pay him, so whoever trades for him must understand that acquiring him means forking out a significant extension. He's likely looking for a deal commensurate with the top pass rushers in the league, something in the neighborhood of the $28.25 million per year contract Brian Burns signed with the New York Giants earlier this offseason.

At this point, Reddick makes the most sense for a team on the rise with cap space to spare. The New England Patriots just traded edge rusher Matthew Judon; Reddick could be an upgrade. The Detroit Lions could use a bookend pass rusher across from Aidan Hutchinson.
