Trades to Make: Dallas Cowboys Wide Receiver CeeDee Lamb
With the NFL regular season coming up fast, teams are finalizing their rosters. However, there's still time for an aggressive team to shake up the league with a savvy trade. Here are the top remaining trade candidates who could be the difference between contention and disappointment for the right franchise.
Wide Receiver CeeDee Lamb
With three Pro Bowls already on his resume, CeeDee Lamb is unquestionably one of the NFL's best young wide receivers, which makes his inability to get a new deal done with the Dallas Cowboys so perplexing. Lamb is sent to enter the fifth-year option of his rookie contract and has already watched several younger (and arguably lesser) pass catchers land life-changing extensions.
Given that the Cowboys are possibly the most valuable franchise in sports, their reluctance to do business with Lamb is peculiar. Considering other recent signings, the parameters of his deal should be clear: the ceiling of his next contract shouldn't exceed Minnesota Vikings star Justin Jefferson's four-year, $140 million deal, but he probably deserves more than the three-year, $96 million extension signed by A.J. Brown with the Philadelphia Eagles.
Who should be interested?
If the Cowboys are hesitant to sign Lamb to a massive extension, teams should be banging down their door in order to acquire the young pass catcher. In 2022, the Miami Dolphins sent the Kansas City Chiefs a first-round pick, a second-round pick, two fourth-round picks, and a sixth-round pick in exchange for Tyreek Hill. Lamb could land the Cowboys a similar package, and they should consider it. Though daring at the time, moving on from Hill resulted in the Chiefs winning consecutive Super Bowls.
Any team trading for Lamb will likely have to gamble most of their significant trade assets for the foreseeable future. Therefore, they must be assured of competing for a Super Bowl this season. The Buffalo Bills recently traded away Stefon Diggs and have a massive hole at WR1; Lamb could help make them one of the best offenses in the league.
