NFL Trade Rumors: Dallas Cowboys Hosting 4-Time Pro Bowl Running Back Dalvin Cook

The Dallas Cowboys are interested in adding a little bit of star power before the regular season. According to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero, the Cowboys are hosting free agent running back Dalvin Cook.

Cook is best known for his time with the Minnesota Vikings. From 2019 to 2022, Cook made four straight Pro Bowls as one of the league's best all-around backs, amassing 5024 rushing yards and 1399 receiving yards with 46 total touchdowns.

Unfortunately for Cook, that all came crashing down in 2023. After being cut by the Vikings last offseason, Cook signed on with the Jets and fell into total obscurity. Over 15 appearances, the former star averaged a pitiful 14.3 rushing yards per game at a career-worst 3.2 yards per attempt. After being cut late in the season, he caught on with the Baltimore Ravens and quietly contributed 23 rushing yards in a single postseason appearance.

Cook is yet another example of how sudden and brutal life can be as an NFL running back. Amazingly, he's still only 29 years old. He was reportedly suffering through a shoulder injury last season, so if that's truly behind him, he could still theoretically contribute to an offense.

The Cowboys could certainly use some help at running back. They lost last year's leading rusher Tony Pollard in free agency, and Ezekiel Elliot apparently sits atop the depth chart. Unless the Cowboys have some under-the-radar youthful talent waiting in the wings, Cook could see meaningful touches if he signs.
